It has been amazing to see the numbers of visitors who have landed on my Camps List post the last three months, and I am happy and grateful that this list has been useful to folks! I have also been receiving emails and messages from folks telling me about camps I haven’t heard about yet, which is great, and the list is continually growing. It is fantastic that more camps are being created, and that LGBTQ kids have the opportunity to connect with each other in different places all over the country. Here are two that I added today!
OKamp—a newly launched LGBTQ Leadership Summit and Weekend Camp in Kansas! This is a camp where LGBTQ youth (aged 12-20) can be their authentic selves, create community, and learn leadership skills. They are especially hoping to provide LGBTQ youth in Kansas and Oklahoma the chance to connect. Cost: $25 (paid at registration.) I love their dandelion logo, which is the image I have chosen for this post. Dates: August 10-12th.
Able to Sail: Longmont, Colorado, 20 miles north of Denver. This camp focuses on building self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of empowerment through learning how to sail! They will have an LGBTQ week this summer, for any LGBTQ-identified folks aged 13-20. (12 year olds can also attend if parents are comfortable with the upper-age limit of the camp). The cost is $295 (if you can pay) or what you can afford/donate. Summer 2018 Dates: July 23rd-26th. Registration open. See website.
Also, FYI: Gender Spectrum is hosting a series of calls for parents who are looking for information about finding a summer camp or starting a summer camp for their kids. You can sign up here! As someone who is hoping to run my own camp in Summer 2019, I am also participating in the calls.
